Ann Tracy

I am honored to join my fellow artists in this exciting exhibition at Spectrum-Miami for Bilhenry Gallery in Milwaukee.  I'm bringing my most recent work from the series: 3 Graces for Environmental Awareness, a project that was funded by many donors along with the Maine State Arts Commission and the US Artists Projects (now called Hatchfund)
3 Graces Homage to Rafael
It was when I discovered that the Graces were protectors of vegetation that I hoped to bring my sense of outrage that people were not taking personal responsibility for our environment to a larger audience.  The following digital painting-collage led me to re-imagine the graces of today but in the poses of the master artists.
Green Graces
Here are some examples of other bodies of work I've been doing over the years.  The Power Series started as the premise of a solo show at Asylum Gallery in Sacramento in 2008.  I've been adding to it over the years.

The Power of Romania Lies in her Artists - 2010
The Power of Buoys - 2010
My Motel Series started off with wanting to make some work specific to an artist-driven festival called NadaDada in Reno NV.  Artists would rent motel rooms for 4 days - 1 to install and 3 to show work (or make an installation) over one weekend in June.  The first year I did this show, we also had a show of selected work at the Barrick Museum in Las Vegas in January.

Motel Variation - Men's Club 2009

Motel Variation - 24 Hours - 2009
And then there is the figure work which I do from time to time

Ann Tracy (°1951, Waltham MA, United States) is an artist who works in a variety of media including digital art, photography, video and theatre (actor, director, playwright).  She is a native New Englander who grew up in the Maine towns of Fryeburg and Cape Neddick before her family moved south to Massachusetts and then west to Colorado in 1969.  After decades of living in Colorado, Wisconsin and California, Tracy is now calling Portland Maine home with her husband, dog and two cats.  She is a member of the Professional Women Photographers,  Digital Arts Guild, Webists International Artists,  Maine Artists Collective and exhibits at Constellation Gallery in Portland.

"I'm a big fan of ambiguity and chance in making art, since my salad days as a modern dancer (early 1970s) and happening upon Merce Cunningham's theory of Chance Dance and the work of the Dadaists.  In calling myself a digital alchemist, I'm trying to reference both a classical past and a forward reaching future in which images with one meaning are combined with others to create new and poetic meanings.  It's as if I'm being called home to a dream world in which fiction and reality meet, meanings shift, past and present fuse.  Sometimes I like the photograph the way it is, then the manipulations are more focused on heightening the impact via color, design and emotional context.  But other images call out to be a basis for combining unrelated aspects which many times lead to surprising analogies."
